Why a Deep Cycle battery... and why OPTIMA? |
Deep cycle batteries are built to withstand repeated deep
discharging (down to 10.5 volts) without premature failure. This makes them
perfect for applications that draw batteries down before they can be fully
recharged, -- uses like car audio, trolling motors, marine accessories and
off road winches. In such applications, one deep cycle battery will typically
last as long as two to ten conventional batteries. Deep cycle batteries
get the toughest work, and no other battery in the world is up to the challenge
like the OPTIMA
deep cycle battery.
A radically superior design makes
the OPTIMA different from and better than any
other deep cycle battery. The structure of conventional deep cycle batteries
—
thick lead plates suspended in pools of acid —
requires those lead plates to provide their own structural
support. To attempt to accomplish this, the lead is diluted with inert stiffening
alloys, robbing them of performance. And despite this performance compromise,
the conventional deep cycle battery design still remains fragile.
The
unique engineering concept of the OPTIMA
deep cycle battery uses long thin layers of higher purity lead alternated
with absorbent glass fiber mesh. This technique is called "AGM"
for "Absorbed Glass Mat." Taking the high efficiency AGM technology
a step further, in the OPTIMA
deep cycle battery these laminated elements are
wound into tight spiral cells and pressed into the "six pack" configuration
that makes them unique. Battery life is typically twice that of the conventional
