Why do OPTIMA batteries have such a low rate of self discharge?
This is mostly due to the use of higher purity lead in OPTIMA batteries. Some of the alloys used in conventional batteries are more prone to electron transfer, resulting in much faster self discharge than the OPTIMA exhibits.
